Waitstaff
INTRODUCTION:
This position is located at Bayview at MWR Food and Beverage Department aboard Naval Station, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The purpose of this position is to provide assistance with the direct support of MWR Food and Beverage.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs necessary preparations in assigned area prior to opening the dining room such as setting the tables with cloths, silverware, glasses, condiments, napkins, and decorations. Takes order from customer, enter into system, and serves customers in a timely manner. Follows up after food is delivered to the table to ensure satisfaction and address any needs and additional requests. Process payments using a cash register, point-of-sale system or manual tracking of payments. Also responsible for handling credit card information in a confidential manner. Must be familiar with the menu for the day, offer suggestions if requested, record desired selections from guests and turn in the order for preparation to the kitchen, when meal is completed, clears and cleans table and the immediate area, and resets the table in preparation for the next guest. Answer questions about facilities and/or menus and when appropriate, makes suggestions. Ensures customers are attended to promptly and addresses any customer service issues. Perform related duties in maintaining and cleaning work area. May be expected to pack to-go orders and cash out dine-out customers. Will ensure that the order is correct and all requested/expected accessories (such as napkin, plastic ware, seasonings, etc.) are included before the order leaves the facility. Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge gained through pertinent job experience enabling the incumbent to demonstrate outstanding customer service skills and to competently take and fulfill orders, in person or by phone. At least one (1) year of wait staff or food service worker experience is required. Knowledge of simple math calculations in order to tabulate checks. Willingness to build and sustain a positive rapport with customers, co-workers and management. Ability and willingness to follow directions and carry out tasks as instructed by leads, supervisor/management. Ability to accurately take orders and answer questions from customers, over the phone and in person. Must be able to adhere to department specific dress code. Must have the ability to tactfully meet, greet and serve all types of customers and recognize intoxicated patrons when serving alcohol and ask for assistance from management. Skill in proper table setting techniques. Skill to serve beverages and meals in the proper manner and sequence. Ability to read and write standard American English is required. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing using standard American English is required. Must be able to work varied work schedules to include evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts. Must successfully complete food handler’s and cash handling training on an annual basis.
