Recreation Assistant / Liberty

INTRODUCTON: This position is located in the Morale, Welfare Recreation Single Sailor Division, aboard Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (NSGB). This position is to assist the Liberty Program Coordinator with running the day to day operation of a successful Single Sailor Program.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Incumbent is responsible performing a range of task involving; answering patrons’ questions and ensuring current regulations concerning standards of conduct are adhered to in accordance with local policies.  Working with assigned personnel to ensure the facility and equipment (recreation gear, bus, van, etc.) are clean and in working condition.  Inspects and alerts supervisor of any damaged equipment. Incumbent may be responsible for coordinating and executing recreation program activities in accordance with published schedules, and notifies management of any absences or deviations.  Operates all electronic equipment in the center to include, but not limited to gaming system, stereo system, internet computers, movie theater equipment, heating, cooling and alarm systems.  Aiding in the selection of material and equipment applicable to the event/project, ensuring that necessary quantities for program participants.  Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; furnishes data in connection with the purchase of equipment and supplies.  Assists the manager with recruiting volunteer support.  Enforces policies and procedures and ensures all patrons and staff adhere to them.  Assists supervisor with the evaluation of program activities through distribution of surveys.  Supervises recreation aids as need be during various activities.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:   Must have one (1) or more years of experience in recreation activity. Incumbent must be able to work independently and make sound decisions and judgments based on facts.  Incumbent must have ability to evaluate the participant response to activities and programs, and evaluate the extent to which recreation programs meet their goals and objectives.

Work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing. Must be able to frequently lift boxes weighing up to 40lbs.

Required to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check background screening with Inquiries (NACI) and SECNAV 5512/1, in accordance with current CNIC policy.

This position requires the incumbent to drive a vehicle around the installation. A valid driver’s license is required at the time of hire.
